While working on my Digital Reduction project (which I just finished) I developed an idea that was already present in my other work.

The idea centers around the fact that there is so much communication today, yet so little understanding. Whether the political rhetoric instead of discourse, the meaningless minutiae of social media posts, or the disconnect from real friends and family in our lives in favor of virtual connections.

I thought the captcha was a great vehicle for this idea. It represents some of the frustration about how we prove our existence in this digital age, as well as the breakdown in understanding.

In my new project, I will take twenty-two words or phrases and intentionally make them hard to read or understand. I will likely do multiple versions of each to explore visual variations.

It is my hope that by exploring this idea, we might begin to question the role of technology in our relationships and the quality of our interactions.
